Agriculture and Industry

Today Murray Bridge has developed as a major agricultural district and serves as the administrative and business hub of the Murraylands. Driven by dairying, chicken raising, pig breeding, tomato and snow pea growing and mushroom farming, the region is a prominent producer of market garden vegetables for Adelaide and interstate markets.

The meat processing plant, T&R Pastoral, has played a major role in reviving the town's prosperity and remains a major employer in Murray Bridge today.

Monarto is north of the South Eastern Freeway between Callington and Murray Bridge and exits 63 km from Adelaide. Monarto is a large industrial area, housing some of the cheapest and most well-placed industrial land in Australia. Monarto will no doubt become a national hub for distribution and warehousing centres and already houses  Big WScotts TransportInghams, APC Australian Portable Camps and Adelaide Mushroom Farms.

Ferries McDonald Road in Monarto South is in the process of receiving approval for a road upgrade. This will create a transport link from Langhorne Creek to the Barossa. The Murray Bridge Council are the project managers of this project.

Monarto is of course also home to Monarto Zoo, an open-range animal sanctuary that is administered by the Royal Zoological Society of South Australia, along with the Adelaide Zoo. Monarto is one of the largest open-range zoos in the world outside of Africa and is one of South Australia's most popular tourist attractions.

Education is provided by the public and privates schools and Murray Bridge Campus of Regional Tafe.
